FAUST

Silviu Purcărete's "Faust" is distinguished by the complexity of the director's vision: it is an extrasensory experience on the border between Earth and Hell, a landscape amplified by projections, fireworks, live rock music, dozens of actors and dancers and an original soundtrack signed by Vasile Şirli. The basis of this modern "Faust" is improvisation, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's text being the starting point for a theatrical composition in which the word is not paramount. The script of the show in Sibiu captures the essential moments from Goethe's text: Faust's pact with the Devil, Faust's passion for Margaret, the night of Valpurgia and Faust's ascension to Heaven. The production is distinguished by scenery and light design of an impressive evocative force, provocatively suggestive costumes, elegant or burlesque, catchy or overwhelming music, with sound effects appropriate to the tightrope walkers, ingeniously articulated video projections in the architecture of the entire stage, created monumentally in a hall disused industrial.

An important landmark of the Romanian theater after '89, the production of the National Theater "Radu Stanca" Sibiu contributes significantly to the promotion of national cultural values. This was confirmed both by the awards obtained and by the tours undertaken: the award for the best female performance in a leading role (Ofelia Popii) and the award for the best scenography (Helmut Stürmer) at the UNITER Gala in 2008, the participation at the Goethe Festival in Frankfurt in 2008 and in the official selection of the Edinburgh International Festival in 2009, the Herald Angel Award 2009, the UNITER Gala Excellence Award in 2010, the extraordinary participation in Brussels in 2011, which had him as a guest of Honor to the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, the invitation received within the Maribor European Capital of Culture 2012 Program, as well as the tour in Budapest, in April this year, at the Madách International Theater Meeting (MITEM).

The show lasts approximately two hours, is presented with English subtitles and is not recommended for those under 16 years of age.
