The ethno-folklore ensemble "The Plaieși" was founded on January 15, 1989 by Nicolae Gribincea at the Republican Palace for Children and Youth in Chisinau and was initially conceived as a mixed collective of songs and dances. From 1990 to 1999, it was active at the Romanian-French Theoretical High School Gheorghe Asachi under the name Stejăreii.
